Jack Carson and Robinson made centuries batting at numbers nine and 10 respectively as Sussex rallied from 92-7 against Surrey to 358-9 declared.

In Division Two, Middlesex reached 272-6 against Durham at Lord's, where England captain Ben Stokes batted in the nets and wandered around the boundary edge ahead of a likely comeback next week.

However, Kemar Roach was withdrawn because of a hamstring injury and replaced by Luke Robinson, who had his cap presentation for his first-class debut on the boundary edge while play was ongoing.
Zak Crawley made a season's best 44 before Daniel Bell-Drummond's 129 helped Kent to 352 against Derbyshire, who closed on 24 without loss at Canterbury.
Gareth Roderick amassed 164 not out to lift Worcestershire to 306 at Wantage Road, where Northampton closed on 40 without loss.
